George Home at Asda has launched a new range of Christmas gnomes for the festive season.

The retailer is well known for its eccentric twist on the traditional garden gnome, and this year they've given the garden accessories a Christmas makeover, with 10 new classic seasonal designs including a carol singing Mr and Mrs Claus, a Christmas tree gnome, a Santa in his sleigh gnome, and a nutcracker gnome.

Additional designs include a Mrs Claus with a snowman (£6) and a Santa Claus with a reindeer (£6). Whether you love or loathe these figurines, George Home says 'the gnomes will make a welcome addition to any Christmas garden display'.

The Christmas gnomes are available to buy now, online and in-store, with seven small designs and three large sizes.

Last year, Asda's spring/summer gnome range flew off the shelves, with one particular design – a unicorn garden gnome – selling out in less than 12 hours. 'We have become well-known for our giant gnomes and we really enjoy coming up with new quirky designs every season,' Isabelle Wynne, outdoor buyer for Asda, previously said.

Originating from Germany in the early 19th century, gnomes were introduced to Britain in 1847 by Sir Charles Isham, the 10th Baronet of Lamport, who brought 21 terracotta figures back from his trip to Germany.

Certainly characterful, gnomes always divide opinion. The garden figurines haven't always been considered tasteful, and they were once famously banned from displays at the Chelsea Flower Show for being deemed 'too tacky'.
